The button is used to open the charging port and the socket to release the cable from the Tesla car. It contains a CR2032 3V battery (expected battery life: 5 years; can be replaced). The battery or battery replacement is not covered by the warranty. However, the unlocking function still works even when the battery is empty due to a special electronic circuit.
